The Environment as an Idea
The concept of MUY NUESTRO is born from a connection to place and from a necessity. The Albufera of Valencia faces a major environmental challenge: the management of the vast quantities of rice straw waste generated every year after harvest. Through this project, we aim to contribute our own “grain of straw” to the search for long-term solutions—rethinking waste as a resource and looking towards the future through a more conscious and sustainable approach.
The design of MUY NUESTRO is shaped around two fundamental elements: water and rice straw. Together, they define the spatial journey, evoking the irrigation channels that have shaped the landscape of the Albufera for centuries.
These elements become both a narrative and a material strategy. The rice straw, once considered a residue, is transformed into a constructive and design element—an innovative yet vernacular material that carries the memory of the territory. Through this transformation, the project creates a dialogue between landscape, craftsmanship, and sustainability, giving new value to what already exists and revealing the potential hidden within the environment itself.
